Todd Cordell: Calgary Flames: On Kase, Simmonds, and trade deadline plans

I don't get the "yeesh" comment on Rinaldo - I think he's largely been fine out there... he's a 4th liner through and through, but he's been the most "Hathaway" type guy in the lineup when he's played...

As for Simmonds, liked the guy 3 years ago - he's now Troy Brouwer IMO, which is unsurpising for a guy that has played a tough style for a number of years. If the Flames were to pick him up, it should be for nothing more than a 4th. That said, some rumour out there that he would likely block a deal to come here...

Also fairly "meh" on Kase - combined 18 goals in his last 79 games. Wouldn't mind him, but wouldn't be paying a ton for him either.

If you have no clue if your team is decent by this point in the season that should tell you something.

We can try a hail Mary hoping that the stars align or we can be smart and calculated and either stock up the cupboards or use those picks for trades if the right thing comes along.

Or we can let 2 top 4 D walk for nothing with the chance of not making playoffs.

Hamonic still week to week.

In the next week we have 2 games against Boston, one game against Tampa, one game against Nashville, and one game against Detroit.

One of those games is winnable with our current D. So if we get lucky and take 2 out of 5 we are hopefully still a bubble team.

I have a strong feeling the Tre is posturing here. Skating "on his own", over the last 2 days, no one has corroborated this... He's positioning himself to not get bent over at the TDL if he does make a move for D.

Yeah Tre should have traded one of them last summer. Dont care the Kadri deal fell apart, there are 29 other teams to do a deal. Cant have 2 pending UFA top 4 D walking for nothing. Tre sh!t the bed. Not sure why Lebrun even mentioned Simmonds, fck sakes, we have Rinaldo & Lucic. I have no complaints about us being able to play a heavy game. I have huge concerns with Stone playing 2nd pairing minutes. Not sure why Tre couldnt top that 3rd rounder for DeMelo by a bit, throw in a prospect like Ruzicka. Keep hearing from some other sites Bruin fans mentioning getting Bennett or Palmerie. You gotta wonder where that's coming from & wonder if a deal like Bennett/Kyllington to Bruins for the likes of Mcavoy, Heinen & maybe a 1st?

I wouldn’t trade just Mcavoy for Bennett and kylington if I’m the Bruins

Bennett does not have the value of a top 4 pick....he is coveted only because teams are always looking to add bottom 6 players on the cheap

Fact is we have 6 LW's. JG, Chucky and unfortunately Lucic likely are not going anywhere at the deadline. One of Bennett, Mang, Dube needs to go in a hockey trade and this chat could debate all day which one of those 3 it is. I wouldn't be surprised if all 3 names are in the mix and the magic question is what value do the other GM's have on these 3?
